Sustainability in the Development of the iBOT duo

Innovation in materials and production processes

At 2KERR, sustainability and efficiency are central to everything we do. In collaboration with the manufacturer Mobius Mobility, we developed the iBOT duo with a strong focus on reusing materials and optimizing existing production resources. This allows us to not only save costs but also make a significant contribution to the sustainability of the production processes.

Sustainable use of existing materials

From the outset of developing the iBOT duo, the emphasis has been on reusing materials and components that might otherwise be wasted. Instead of designing completely new components, we looked for ways to integrate existing products and parts into new applications. This approach has helped us avoid product development costs and unnecessary waste streams.

Furthermore, we closely examined how we could reuse materials or components that would normally be discarded as rejected or surplus in the iBOT duo. This approach reduces material waste and minimizes the need for new materials.

Efficiency in production through smart adjustments

For the iBOT duo, we chose the powerbase of the iBOT PMD as a starting point. This allows us to use the same powerbase with minimal adjustments for the iBOT duo. This means we can use the same production lines and tooling for both products. This has led to more efficient use of production resources and a higher utilization rate of existing technology and processes.

Choosing to leverage existing technology and processes for two different products not only offers advantages in terms of efficiency but also in sustainability. It reduces the need for new product development and makes optimal use of already available production resources.

Quality standards and the reuse of rejected parts

The iBOT PMD is intensively used and must meet very high-quality standards, especially for the structural powerbase parts. This means that some parts do not meet these standards and are therefore rejected. In traditional product development, these parts would be discarded.

However, for the iBOT duo, where certain functionalities of the iBOT PMD (such as climbing stairs) are not necessary, the higher quality standards do not apply. This gives us the opportunity to reuse these rejected parts, which would otherwise be discarded, in the production of the iBOT duo. This results in less material waste and optimizes the potential of the raw materials.
